Mazda MX-5 Global Launch

When the new MX-5 was launched, Bluefish undertook all the global launch photography here in Australia with two vehicles secretly air freighted to Australia for the 4 week shoot.

Only secured locations could be used as the vehicle could not be unveiled in public until its Geneva motor show launch still some 2 months away. A selection of shots from the shoot and behind the scenes moment follow. Also check out the launch film in guise as a ‘Movie Trailer’ at the end of the blog!

With the tracking rig providing a fixed physical connection between car and camera amazing motion effects can be achieved. With the vehicle traveling very slowly (often just rolling with the engine off to reduce vibration) a long shutter speed creates beautifully blurred backgrounds while the car itself remains sharp. The tracking rig is then later retouched out of the final image.
